Dried Liver bits for training your dog.
When I take my dogs out I have a leather bum-bag that I wear with a pocket in it for poo bags, one for the whistle, one for the phone and car key and a pocket at the front that I put treats in for training purposes. It is funny but my dogs rarely ever focus on the bag because they know that it is for rewarding only.
In this bag I like to put in a more dried treat than the microwave liver cake I normally prepare for training at home.
This is a doddle to prepare and if done correctly will last for weeks and weeks as it is dried out liver and not moist.
Boil liver in whole chunks in water. It matters not which type of liver you use.
When cooked through (approximately 15 mins boiling time) drain and cool. (put it well out of the dogs reach lol)
When cool, cut the liver into tiny little bits about the size of a garden pea (just the pea, not the pod). This is rather time consuming but at least it does not make a mess - any tiny bits that fall onto the floor are often vacuumed up but little helpers ......
Spread the tiny bits of liver onto a tray and put in a hot oven for 15 mins and then turn the oven right down to moderately cool and leave the liver in the oven for another 30 minutes. Check to see if it is done - it should be hard and dry. If it is done allow to cool and then put in an airtight container. If not quite done just return to the oven and check again periodically. It can take up to an hour.
To stop your dog from grabbing at the treats hold them well between your forefinger and thumb and make the dog work at getting them.

Re: Dried Liver bits for training your dog.
You can't go wrong Anne - the only thing is that any of these treats do tend to make your house pong .. although I guess to a dog "eau de liver" is probably quite nice
