Introducing myself- Gela
I am Gela, 33 years old and I used to volunteer for a dog rescue for aprox 10 months where I mostly looked after Ruby and eventually found a new home for her. Finding a new home for this dog was certainly one of the best things I have done in my life.
I had fallen in love with her straight after we first met and hence I can not have a dog where I live I just had to get her through the time in the kennels and find her a home instead. I spent many many days there with her, waited for her when she had been spayd to hold her paw, washed her bedding at home, walked her for endless hours in all weathers, took her to the forest, bough her a coat and toys, cheered her up with her beloved banana's, sat with her in her kennel for good long snuggles, developed Ruby posters and advertised her locally, wrote updates on her development in the recues forum, joyned facebood to advertise her on local pages and eventually IT WORKED! Dave saw Ruby on Facebooks "We love Stourport-On-Severn" page and got in touch. After 9 long months in the kennels Ruby got a new home. You can read all about Ruby's journey in this forum in the "In a forever home" section. There are also many pictures.
I am not an expert on dogs, I just enjoy being with them. Hopefully another opportunity to help will arise for me soon. I enjoyed the time with Ruby thoroughly and it was very rewarding. Steve and I will be able to have a dog of our own one day (he wants a boxer, I want a staffie, maybe we should just take two!) but until then I'll have to cope without .
I have met great friends through all this and I would want not miss them for the world.
I think this forum is a great opportunity to provide support for people who own or want to own a rescue dog and also to make new friends and I hope it will make a difference.
See you at the next walk hopefully

banana's
It was thanks to reading Ruby's thread that we discovered the wonders of bananas! We put Nico's worming tablets in them, otherwise he spits his tablets out lol!
