Trixi anno 1983 or so
I do not have a pic as I was only little but my Trixi looked exactly like this:
She got killed by a car unfortunately. That was a drama back then....my first trauma.

Aw she was a beautiful looking colour - what is it called? I remember out first dog as I was 3 when we got her and 17 when she died ... that was a bit of a shock to the system. I think dogs are great for children to learn about life, death and all the fun inbetween.

No idea what you call it in english but in German we say rot-blond. She was red with goldy locks on her head and ears. The woman who accidently killed her cried because she was so beautiful.
Yes, dog's are great for children and they'r development. Whether it is about learning and experiencing responsibility or just to have a friend who always listens, never judges you and where you can always lean on to... hmmmm

Re: Trixi anno 1983 or so
I dont have a photo of any of our families two dogs....but the first was a jack russell puppy and someone pinched him from our garden i was real little....i remember my mum cryin loads...the next when i was seven was a beautiful red long haired dog....looked like a collie...( but i aint never seen a red one )....thinkin about it he looked like ashley only red....well he kept running off and looking for girls....( un neutered ) or fighting with the local dogs....well my dad said that the dog was unhappy and he was going to find him a farm to live on so he would be happy.....My dad dumped him in a country road...and i watched out of the back window as this dog ran his little heart out trying to catch up with us....i knew something was up but couldnt connect the dots....just knew that i couldnt breathe...never forgot that picture ever.....Mind you my Dad did have his beautiful Gsd taken off him when he was nine and drowned in the local river because the family were poor.....dont spose he could breathe then either....x..........So dont have no photos but wanted to say about my boys....x

Oh Kim, thats horrible. No wonder you're trying to look after all the dogs now. That ws a traumatic experience- horrible. Al least you can be sure now the little fella is now ok as he clearly won't be alive anymore but somewhere where it's lovely instead. xxxxxx

Re: Trixi anno 1983 or so
Our first dog as children was a STAFFY called Plush (because her mum was called Velvet) she was one of a litter from the vicarage & we all went to choose her when she was a few days old...my Mum says I cried for 2 days because I thought she was coming home right then & there.........She did everything with us kids & best of all if you were ill she was allowed to stay up in bed with you & she never moved...At 9 years of age she developed what I now think was probably a tumour in her throat..we were not well off but I remember my Dad & Mum spent a lot of money trying to help her. but unfortunately she couldn't be saved...I remember the vet came to the house & we were allowed to stay with her as she was put to sleep...It must have made an impression because I have always stayed with all my dogs when the dreaded day has come ...it's not easy but I remember my Dad saying we were her family, she had given us love & now it was our turn.
I haven't thought about her in a long time but I can still see her face as I write this

Re: Trixi anno 1983 or so
i've had several dogs in my family whilst growing up the first one i remember was Pip a black gsd..i remember how many people were afraid of him including Rich my now hubby..when Rich was young he'd had a brand new bike for christmas and was out and about on it when Pip appeared from no where and gave chase..rich said he pedaled his fastest to get away, luckily the bike was faster than pip. He was the sort of dog that if you raised your arm or clenched a fist he was ready to bite ..i never saw this horrid side to him he was my friend and played beautifully with me..he was my dads dog and caused many problems for our family my mum couldnt come near me at times as pip would guard me and ready to bite her, more problems occurred when a man come into our family's garden so pip decided he would give chase...hours later they got him back only to have a angry man with a plank of wood ready to beat the dog with..not sure if my dad stepped in the way but he got the beating instead! Mom decided enough was enough and pip was gone. mom said a nice man on a farm wanted him and he would be able to run freely....it was only last year since i have been a volunteer and was talking about our family's pet that i discovered he'd actually gone to a rescue...gutted!!30 years on .
