Boots
I have a gadget for my bike that allows me to harness the dog up to it and to safely ride my bike to suit his speed and endurance. When we first start using it in the springtime, sometimes Nib's pads get sore. I do use surgical spirit to harden the pads up, but to protect his feet I use boots from a company called SnowPaws. They really are great and because I put them on just as we leave he never tries to remove them. They are cheap enough in case one gets lost (never happened while out, only when I put them down at home somewhere "safe" ) .... they are durable and I believe they are brilliant value too - here is a link to the page with the boots on:

I have also used these: http://www.snowpawstore.com/comfort-dog-boots.html which are slightly more expensive but are really very waterproof (great if you want to walk your dog while he is wearing a bandage etc).

Gadget
Liked the link about the boots but would also be interested in the 'gadget' as my daughter and her partner have two huskies who run alongside their bikes and I haven't heard them say they use anything other than the lead?

Re: Boots
PLEASE!!!!
If you want to exercise your dog alongside your bicycle ...you really need an attachment that goes from a harness on the dog via a spring to the underside of the main seat stalk..why? because dogs are unpredictable...even at their very best obedience concentration, they are predictable in their unpredictablity.....and that means even a few kg of dog sets off at an angle to a forward moving vehicle on wheels...yup, you guessed it..a. bike....disaster is just a spoke away
Most active dogs really enjoy exercise alongside a bicycle but it is madness to try and hold a leash or even worse hold a leash and the handlebars ....happy , safe trails

Just what I've been looking for
I have often pedalled up and down our lane with Phoebe on a lead, with the handle of the lead slung over the handlebar. She is very predictable, and extremely good on the lead, so will follow direction really well. It worked okay with her, but I always thought it wasn't the safest way of running her alongside me on the bike. Tucker is a different matter, and I have been thinking about what was out there to enable me to run him alongside the bike, as he loves to run, and I thought this would be fabulous exercise for both of us. I like the look of the Springer, although the price is high. There seems to be a good selection of alternatives under £40-£50, and at the end of the day, what price do you put on your health and safety? I will definitely be investing in one and make it our daily ritual after work, once the evenings get a bit lighter.
